Breast Augmentation

Silicones are placed into the breast tissue through a 3-4 cm incision made under the breast. The incision remains in the lower fold of the breast. The scars will have some redness to them for the first 3-6 months but they will fade over time and become less obvious.

The silicone implants are placed under the breast tissue or under the breast muscle, and there is no interference with the mammary glands. This implies that the implants do not prevent lactation.

As long as there are no problems such as capsule formation or infection, new generation implants last for life and do not need to be changed. The breast implants can’t get damaged by pressure or blunt trauma. An implant can only be damaged by a sharp instrument.

Sometimes there may be temporary loss of sensation or hypersensitivity in the nipples. These issues usually resolve completely within a few months.

With the use of the example implants available at our clinic, you can see how the different sizes fit on you and decide along with the doctor on the size that suits you best. Implants are divided by shape and by sheath. Implants are round or anatomical (drop) shaped. And according to their sheaths, they are divided into two types as rough and smooth surface. My (Doctor Emre) preference is round and smooth-surfaced implants, and my choice of brands is either mentor and motiva.

• You have to stop using products and medications such as blood thinners (aspirin, Coumadin), painkillers, vitamins, weight loss pills and herbal teas 10 days before the surgery because they cause bleeding during and after surgery and you should not use them 1 week after surgery.
• If you have a chronic disease such as heart failure, diabetes, asthma, thyroid (goiter), high blood pressure, you should be taking your medications regularly and you have to get confirmation from your doctor stating that you can undego the surgery. You should have an examination and a recent analysis done to confirm your medical condition.
• It is recommended to stop smoking and hookah as early as possible before surgery, as it will negatively affect wound healing.
• You should not consume any alcohol 1 week before the operation.
• You should stop using contraceptives 1 month before the operation as they increase the risk of clot formation in the legs.
• You should inform the doctor in case you have a flu infection, fever, rash or any illness develop within a few days before the operation. If seen necessary, your surgery will be postponed.
• You should stop eating and drinking 8 hours before the scheduled surgery time.
• If you use blood pressure medicine, diabetes medicine, thyroid medicine, etc you have to consult with the surgical team and take your medicine with very little water.
• Since bowel movements slow down due to the effect of anesthesia and lack of movement after surgery, liquid and natural fiber foods should be consumed for a few days before the operation. You should restrain from consuming heavy foods such as kebabs and baklava the day before the procedure.
• You should take off your contact lenses, earrings, necklaces, hair clips or piercings etc. on the day of surgery.
• You should not have any nail polish or make up on the day of the surgery.

• You have to use the medical bra for 4 weeks after the operation.
• You will remain in the hospital for 1 night after the operation. You will be able to go back to your daily activity 1 week after the operation.
• In the first days after the operation, there may be pressure and swelling in the breast. After the 3rd day, the amount of edema will begin to decrease and the breasts will begin to soften. In the early stages after the operation, the breast may look artificial and hard to the touch but within 3-6 months it becomes natural and takes its final appearance.
• Activities that require a heavy use of shoulder and arm muscles should be avoided for a few weeks.
• Smoking after the procedure as well as before the procedure will affect the recovery negatively.
• All the stitches that we use are melting esthetic stitches which is why they will not be removed or taken out.
• You should use Thiocilline cream on the incission line for the first 10 days post operation and use Siliscar cream afterwards once a day for two months to reduce the appearance of the scar.
