Tooth extraction is the removal of teeth that cannot be treated under local anesthesia. Tooth extraction can be done in cases where it is not possible to save the tooth with filling or root canal treatment. For example if there is deep and severe caries or there is gingival recession around the tooth. Tooth extraction is a method that is applied if all other possibilities have been exhausted and they did not work. In simple tooth extraction, a local anesthetic is applied that numbs the area around the tooth to be extracted. This way, only pressure is felt during the procedure. There is no feeling of pain. The tooth is then loosened and removed.
